Knapp's Relational Model

Knapp's Relational Model: Integrating

Currently, a relationship I am in is in the process of developing and coming together. This relationship is with my girlfriend, who I have been with for three years. During these three years, online communication has had a major role in our ability to develop in the fourth stage, integration. This is due to the fact that my girlfriend moved away pretty early on in our relationship for college. Without online communication, we wouldn't have been able to stay in touch as much as we have. Being able to do things like Facetime, text, and play online games together was pivotal in our ability to grow closer. Out of these examples, the most important form of online communication was being able to Facetime. While Facetime is not a replacement for face-to-face interaction, it is the second-best thing. With Facetiming, we have been able to have shared experiences that we would have missed being long distance. The use of different forms has sent us up to go into the next stage soon, bonding.
